JWU Staff Steps Up For Students

If there's one thing we can count on during uncertain times, it's the power of the JWU community. In the spring of 2020, when our students were facing major disruptions to their academic journeys, our devoted staff were among the supporters that stepped up to provide assistance.

The staff of the Experiential Education & Career Services (EE&CS) department on the Providence Campus continues to answer the call—literally and figuratively.

"Since mid-March, our staff have moved quickly to adapt to a virtual environment. This was no easy task but through the dedication and perseverance of my team, we deployed remote ways of supporting the needs of our students," says Dean Sheri Young, Ed.D., '93, '94 M.S. "We’ve been diligently working to help students navigate these uncharted waters through virtual advising sessions and virtual career fairs, as well as through a comprehensive telephone campaign to our graduating students.

"Wanting to do even more for Wildcats in need, the entire EE&CS staff personally contributed to the JWU Emergency Fund in May during #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of generosity for those affected by the pandemic.

"Our team includes 11 JWU alumni and we have 260 combined years of service working at Johnson & Wales. This was something each of us wanted to do, so we challenged ourselves to reach 100% staff participation," explains Young. "We each gave what we could, knowing that collectively our gifts will have a powerful impact on students with urgent needs."

Join the Johnson & Wales community with your gift, of any amount. Gifts made to the JWU Emergency Fund assist Wildcats from all campuses with technology resources, reimbursement for travel and housing expenses, and tuition relief for those facing unforeseen financial hardships. Your support is more important now than ever, and every gift will help our students accomplish the goals that brought them to Johnson & Wales University.

Forever JWU

The Mary & Gertrude Society was established to honor our founders, Gertrude I. Johnson and Mary T. Wales, who in 1914 had the courage and vision to create Johnson & Wales. More than a century later, we are proud to celebrate them by honoring loyal donors who have given to the University for three or more consecutive years.
