Equine Donations

Whether donating a horse or making a monetary gift, you can support the Center for Equine Studies at JWU. For more than 40 years, donors have helped educate and prepare the next generation of equine industry professionals.

Give Now

Since 1980, Johnson & Wales University's Center for Equine Studies in Rehoboth, MA, has received horses donated or free-leased from generous individuals. These wonderful school horses are the foundation of JWU’s equine degree programs and nationally competitive equestrian athletics teams. We are always seeking quality horses to add to our equine program, IDA and IHSA varsity teams. We provide a great environment in which your horse can help educate the next generation of equine industry professionals. We accept mentally and physically sound horses of all skill levels with dressage, jumper or hunter seat background.

Horse Donation Process

  1. Complete the Horse Information Sheet and email it to Annie Kononchik '16, '17 MBA at akononchik@jwu.edu.
Please specify if you are interested in an academic year free-lease or donation.
  2. The director of the JWU Center for Equine Studies will contact you regarding your horse.
  3. We will request a video of your horse before accepting it into the program on trial.
This helps to avoid unnecessary shipping costs and arrangements.
  4. After reviewing the video, the director will contact you to arrange a trial period.
This is to make sure that your horse will work for our program and that your horse will be comfortable and happy in our program.
  5. For horses accepted on trial we will need the following:
Signed trial contract (provided by us)
Access to the horse's veterinary records
  6. Following the trial period, if the horse is accepted for donation, we will need the following:
IRS Form 8283 with donor's tax ID number
A copy of an appraisal you acquire for the horse (we can assist in arranging this if needed)
  7. Once all items are received, we will provide you with an official letter from the school acknowledging the gift, as well as the IRS Form 8283 signed by an officer of Johnson & Wales University.

Equipment Donation Process

Please consider donating new or gently-used equestrian or farm-related equipment (tack, apparel, stable equipment, farm tools, etc.) to the JWU Center for Equine Studies. No gift is too small or too large. These donations are tax-deductible and help our program.

  1. Complete the Equipment Donation Form and email it to Annie Kononchik '16, '17 MBA at akononchik@jwu.edu.
Please make sure to include photos of the item(s) you are interested in donating.
  2. The Operations Manager of the JWU Center for Equine Studies will contact you regarding your equipment.

Equine Program Support & Academic Scholarships

The equestrian community is generous, and many organizations and individuals, including alumni, have invested in the future of our up-and-coming equine professionals. If you would like to join others in supporting our dedicated students either by establishing a scholarship or by creating a fund to underwrite costs for programming, equipment, research or facilities, please contact Maureen Dumas, vice president of advancement & university relations, at Maureen.Dumas@jwu.edu.

Or, make a gift today to support the Center for Equine Studies or the IDA or IHSA equestrian teams. Gifts can be made securely online and will have a direct and immediate impact on our students.
