Meet the Staff

Patricia A. McLaughlin, J.D.

Patricia McLaughlin joined Johnson & Wales University as senior vice president, institutional advancement in Feb 2006. Her previous experience includes, most recently, leading corporate, foundation and government relations for Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence, RI. Prior to her work at RISD, she held various positions for the City of Providence, including as director of administration and deputy city solicitor.

McLaughlin’s current role includes the overall responsibility for advancing the mission and defining a vision for philanthropy in a manner that supports the university’s long-range strategic plans and goals. In addition to advising President Bowen on various components of the advancement area, she is responsible for maintaining relationships with and raising funds from alumni as well as independent donors, foundations and corporations.

McLaughlin oversees the development effort, alumni relations, university event management and the university’s Creative Services Group, which include University Communications, JWU Magazine, Web Communications, University Marketing and Design and Editorial Services. She is also responsible for positioning JWU and the university’s reputation locally, nationally and internationally.

A member of the University Leadership Team, McLaughlin earned her bachelor of arts degree in political science at Providence College and her juris doctor from The George Washington University, The National Law Center, Washington, D.C.

Page joined the university in Sep 2006 in the newly created position of Executive Director, University Advancement Services. Prior to joining JWU, she spent four years working in Corporate & Foundation Relations at Rhode Island School of Design. Page also has extensive experience working for several smaller nonprofit cultural and environmental organizations including Save The Bay, Newport Art Museum, the Preservation Society of Newport County and the Rotch-Jones-Duff House & Garden Museum. She earned a B.A. in Comparative Literature from the University of Rhode Island and her M.B.A. with a Concentration in Nonprofit and Public Management from Boston University in 2000.

Michael Schrader
Director, Grants and Giving

Michael Schrader joined Johnson and Wales University in Oct 2008 as Director of Grants and Giving. Michael is responsible for managing the grant-seeking and reporting activities for all four university campuses. 

Prior to coming to JWU, Michael was Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations at Meeting Street where he secured program and operating grants in support of child development and educational services. He had also served as Assistant Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations and Faculty Research at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) where he was responsible for securing funding both for institutional priorities and the professional activities of full-time and part-time faculty. 

While at RISD, Michael collaborated with Academic Affairs to create the Faculty Research Office, and he developed and implemented guidelines for the RISD Research Foundation. Michael holds a B.A. in Philosophy and has taught graduate students in fine arts on how to professionalize and attract support for their work. 

Maureen Rooney
Director, Prospect Research

Maureen Rooney, Director, Prospect Research, joined Johnson & Wales University in Oct 2006. Prior to that, she was a prospect researcher for five years at Lifespan, the largest health care system in Rhode Island. She began her career as a prospect researcher at the University of Connecticut Foundation in Storrs, Connecticut. She is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, with a B.A. in English and an M.A. in political science.

Tracy Forkin

Tracy joined Johnson & Wales University in Apr 2005 as an Information Officer for the Advancement Department. Tracy previously held the position of Supervisor of Support Services for the Catholic Charity Fund Appeal through the Diocese of Providence. She is currently a student at JWU working toward a degree in Business Management. She also has the privilege of serving as an advisor for the President's Leadership Council, a group of academically successful students who serve as a liaison between the campus president and the student body.

Prior to joining the nonprofit world, Tracy managed three different restaurants located in Rhode Island which specialized in Italian-American cuisine. She was born and raised in Rhode Island and has been a resident of Cranston for the past 11 years.
